39 Vakhitov Street

The mosque was built in 1859 on the money of Khassan M.Yakupov, a merchant from the Vyatsk province.The project of the new mosque's construction in Chistopol instead of a burnt down one was worked out on the basis of the project of 1857 of Code of Construction Laws and was approved in 1859. In 1846-1893 the prominent religious man Muhametzakir Abdulvagap Muhametkamalov (1818-1893) was the imam-khatib at it. In 1893-1921 the famous pedagogue and public man Muhametnazip Khusain Amirkhanov (1859-1921) worked at it.

This one-storeyed building is situated in the remote part of its plot. It is a one-storeyed mosque with a dome hall and a minaret above the entrance. Much later a two-storeyed vestibule was attached to the main part of the building in the north side. Its original minaret was destroyed in the 1930s and restored in the 1970s. During repairs at the end of the 1980s one more entrance part was added to the vestibule from the east. Originally, the mosque had the enfilade of three rooms: a vestibule, a small room and the main praying room. The vestibule and the small room were in one part of the building and were covered by a gable roof. The narrow staircase leads to the minaret set above the entrance. The main praying room is surmounted with an eight-faceted upper part under a fin-shaped dome. Inside the building the upper part with the dome is supported by four columns.

The mosque is the monument of Tatar religious architecture of the middle of the 19th century built in the eclectic style of national romantic trend.
