Education

During the last years in the RT there has been created a system of Moslem vocational schools, it is explained by the increasing interest in Islam, lack of specialists to work in the capacity of imam-khatibs and mugallims (i.e. teachers) in parishes.

At present the following educational institutions are available:

In Kazan city:
the Russian Islamic University (the RIU),
the higher Moslem medrese "Mukhammadia",
the higher Moslem medrese in named after the millenium of the adoption of Islam.

In Naberezhnie Chelni city:
the secondary Moslem medreses "Yoldis" (a Star) and "Ak Mechet"  (the White Mosque).

In Nizhnekamsk town:
the secondary Moslem medrese "Risala".

In Almetyevsk town:
the secondary Moslem medrese named after Riza Fakhretdin.

There are also medreses in the towns Buinsk and Nurlat. More than 1000 shakirds (students) study in the above mentioned medreses, besides, primary medreses work in the mosques.

The levels of educational establishments:
Level 1: primary medreses (1 year of education).
Level 2: secondry medreses (2 years).
Level 3: higher medreses (5 years).
Level 4: the RIU :
1- for a Bachelor degree- 4 years;
2- for a Master degree- 6 years;
3- graduate courses- 2 years more (8 years in total).
